The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is the seventh largest school district in California, serving more than 54,000 students who speak more than 44 documented languages across 136 schools in the city of San Francisco every year. Under direction of a SFUSD credentialed teacher or counselor, the AVID tutor will work with and facilitate academic support for small groups of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• AVID Tutors will facilitate small learning groups and support teachers in the classrooms both virtually (for now) and in person (when schools are back to in person instruction)
• AVID Tutors will provide feedback on student work and the college application process.
• AVID Tutors must be able to travel to assigned school sites as required.
• AVID Tutors may be asked to participate in meetings and in-service training programs.

Knowledge of:

• Note taking and study strategies
• The college application process
• Oral and written communication skills
• Interpersonal relations skills

*You don't need to be an expert in any of the middle/high school subject areas as you will be trained to facilitate small learning groups so that the students will help each other.

Ability to:

• Tutor small groups
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Communicate effectively with students and adults both orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, instructional staff, parents, and others connected to the course work
• Work confidentially, with discretion and with appropriate boundaries
• Manage time effectively and be punctual for job responsibilities.

Desired Qualifications

• Enrolled in college courses

In addition to your job application, applicants must submit a current class schedule (school-issued transcript/schedule), resume, letter of intention and 2 references. Must provide negative TB test results.

Minimum Qualifications

• Adult, 18 years of age or older
