The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is the seventh largest school district in California, serving more than 54,000 students who speak more than 44 documented languages across 136 schools in the city of San Francisco every year. Prop A substitutes will be responsible for the continued learning of all students in their classroom, maintaining a safe and supportive classroom culture, and collaborating with other teachers and administrators to ensure a successful school day.

Prop A substitutes exclusively support and substitute teach at High Potential Schools that serve San Francisco’s most historically underserved populations and communities and have lower academic achievement rates than other schools in the district. SFUSD will continue to have our Prop A substitutes support our highest priority absences while ensuring that equity remains a focal point at the heart of the program.

The substitute system automatically assigns the sub assignments, therefore there is no flexibility in selecting the subject or school sites as a TK-12 Day-to-Day Sub would. The perfect candidate for this position is a candidate that is on board with serving all of SFUSD's High Potential Schools!

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited undergraduate institution
• Negative TB test administered within 60 days of hire
• Clearance of fingerprint background check
• Substitute teach exclusively at SFUSD's High Potential Schools, and agree to be auto-assigned by the substitute management system to ALL subjects and ALL grade levels exclusively at SFUSD's High Potential Schools
• Classroom experience required (Substitute teaching or Certificated teaching)
• If hired for the Fall 2024 semester, work a minimum of 160 days/assignments throughout the 2024 -2025 school year 
• If hired for the Spring 2025 semester, the position is a full-time, 5 days per week commitment

What We Offer

Salary:

Prop A substitutes receive a daily rate of $405.82.

Bonuses:

10 day bonus: an additional $39.04 per day is earned after working ten (10) consecutive days in the same assignment. After the 10th day the additional amount is paid retroactively.

Quality Teacher and Education Act (QTEA) bonus: The following bonuses will be paid after the end of each semester.

• $200 for teaching at least sixty (60) days per semester 
• $400 for teaching at least fifty (50) days per semester in High Potential school(s)
