Minimum Qualifications

SFUSD requires all teachers to hold or be pursuing a valid California teaching credential and an English Learner or Bilingual Authorization. We welcome applications from teachers who have not yet received their credentials, and our Credentials Team is happy to work with each teacher who's accepted a position in SFUSD to apply for permits that allow them to teach while pursuing a credential.

Job Responsibilities

Provide direct instruction to elementary school students at various school sites as assigned by the Physical Education Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
• Collaborate with the Physical Education Director, Supervisor, Implementation Specialists, site teachers and administrators
to provide a comprehensive and sequential standards-based Physical Education program to ensure all students
have access to the core curriculum
• Rotate between 1 – 5 school sites per week (generally 2 per week). When the physical education specialist is not
at the site, the core teachers will continue instructing lessons from the adopted curriculum units until the specialist rotates back through the school site. Specialists must develop communication tools
so that ongoing communication happens between the classroom teacher and Specialist. (i.e., Calendar, e-mails,
curriculum mapping, instructional log)
• Develop/review new curriculum and training strategies with Elementary physical education specialists
• Support and coach classroom teachers 
• Implement a team-teaching scope and sequence 
• Be knowledgeable of and be prepared to model effective use of differentiated instructional strategies 
• Collaborate with other site leaders (i.e., school administrators, classroom teachers, paras, etc.) 
• Contribute to the cultivation of strong and cohesive professional learning communities
• Attend SFUSD professional development for Elementary School Physical Education Specialists 
• Assist with student and program assessments 
• PE Specialist will learn, model, collaborate, and assist the classroom teachers with assessments for the quarterly PE performance report cards
• Attend site staff meetings 
• Coordinate, organize, and present Physical Education Professional Developments at school sites 

• Organize end-of-the-year school site culminating PE event
• Assist with collecting, recording, and assessing documentation on student development as related to the content
standards and curriculum
• Use a Black Board Configuration (BBC) with every class
• Visually post PE information for each school site you teach at (ie. Bulletin board, section in the school
newsletter, student(s) of the week, etc.)
• Provide instruction/modeling/team teaching/lesson planning during the entire instructional day
• Maintain, inventory, and organize physical education equipment storage area.
